Back To Where We Were

Balthazar Balthazar, a French bistro in SoHo NYC, holds a special place in my heart. Sure they serve my favorite duck confit dish but this place is so much more than that.

My sister, Connie, had somehow found this place on the internet while she was apartment hunting with me in June 2003. We took the red eye and landing in a rainy (and at times pouring) NYC. We had spent the day wandering around with a broker and put down deposit for a place in Astoria (though of course the next day I found another place in the UES and got my deposit back). So after a long tiring day in the streets of NYC, we went to Balthazar for a nice cozy meal. My friends, that meal not only made my tummy happy it also recharged my soul.

And ever since then, I would go back once in a while. Almost every time I would get the same two things, a French onion soup and the duck confit.

Ann Hamilton The Event Of A Threat

Ann Hamilton Over the weekend, I went to check out Ann Hamilton's show "The Event of a Thread" at the Park Avenue Armory. I'm not a big arty person (yeah even though I minored in Studio Art in college and went to ITP), I do enjoy the occasional stroll through museums. I find some art a little hard to understand and mostly just a bunch of BS. Then there are art like "The Event of a Thread". My first impressions, magical, fantastical, whimsical and just in awe of the scale. There were aspects of the show which I didn't really get (like the people sitting at the tables writing and reading) but it added a sense of mystery to the piece.

Though the thing I took from this show was the idea of collaboration. The more than a dozen swings were what moved the big piece of white fabric hanging in the middle of the armory. It required all the swings to be in motion to move the piece of fabric. Collaboration, team work, each swing was an important part of the whole piece.

Also it was just fun to swing like a kid again.

The show is up till 1/6/2013

A New York City Scene

Flatiron District, Madison Square Park NYC.Flatiron District

I found myself wandering around the Flatiron District on Saturday. Hungry, I was thinking about getting a burger at Shake Shack but instead got distracted by the near empty Madison Square Park and the cool night views around the park.

Flatiron District - Empire St Building It's been rainy since Friday night and while it stopped raining for a moment on Saturday, the clouds stuck by and covered the top of the Empire State Building. It almost looked like a giant robot was hiding in the clouds.
